Building the academic capacity of K-12 Principals through a high-rigor, high-support cohort learning experience.
A Principal’s Impact
A Principal’s impact on student learning is much more significant than we have previously given credit. Researchers Leithwood, Louis, Anderson, and Wahlstrom in How Leadership Influences Student Learning (2004) reveal that leadership is second only to teaching among school-based factors to advancing student learning. Though the impact of school leaders on student learning is indirect, it is substantial. Studies further suggest that effective Principals are associated with better instructional practices, more positive learning environments, and higher teacher morale (Sebastian & Allensworth, 2012). Yet, each year we fail to develop and adequately support leaders to be effective in their role. PLC provides leaders with critical support and enhances leaders’ capacity to deliver on academic outcomes for students.
